Finally, a New Entry

Sunday, November 18, 2007

It's been a long time since I have written an entry...I have been busy with other things, so I guess I just forgot about it.

Hard to believe, but I just celebrated my 70th birthday!  I'm feeling fine and looking forward to the future.

I had a wonderful birthday.  Cards and telephone calls from family and friends...even a phone call from Anita, in Germany...what a nice surprise.  Although I must say, I really struggled with my German.  I haven't spoken German since I was in Europe 4 years ago.

Speaking of the future, I will be in Pennsylvania for 2 months next summer...July and August, staying at a condo in Hidden Valley.  I plan to use the Auto train to cut down on the amount of driving that I have to do.  While on my way to Hidden Valley, I am hoping to visit with Judy and Lou, in Virginia, my sisters, Emily and Donna near Philadelphia, and make a 2 day stop in Ocean City NJ.

Well, I have to stop  now.  I want to go for my daily walk, and then get ready for church.  I will work on doing a better job of remembering to post entries in my "View from Florida".

The Election and Negative Campaigning

1st...Did you vote?  If yes...good for you!   If no, and there is still time, go vote!

Before any election results are in.  I want to say that...

The negative campaigning and the negative ads which have bombarded us on radio, TV, and by telephone...are not only disappointing, they are disgusting.  The ads make many of the candidates seem like a bunch of kids seeing who can throw the most dirt and sling the most mud at their opponent...

I do not believe that students, elementary, middle or high school students, would campaign in such a way...and if they did, the teachers, parents, and administration would be all over them.

I am tired of these ads from so called independent groups that can say anything they want about a candidate and then not be accountable.  These groups should either be banned, or they should be held accountable for what they say.

The candidates and their respective parties who use these "street fighting" techniques set a poor example for the youth in our country and discourage new young voters from being responsible citizens who take part in the elections.

When will the candidates understand that we want to hear what they plan to do, not what they think their opponent will do.

It concerns me that some of these candidates who have been so negative and crude might become representatives in our local, state and federal government.

Toyota Navigation System-Dissatisfied

I am very dissatisfied with the way the Navigation System in my Prius functions, as it is not full enabled when the car is in motion. (I drove a Honda Odyssey, with a navigation system, for five years…it was fully enabled while the car was in motion. I did not know they came any other way.)

I called my salesman and was advised to contact the Toyota Customer Service Department.  I was then given a case #  by the Customer relations Department and told to call the Customer Service Manager where I purchased my car

I contacted the Customer Relations Manager.  Initially she told me that it was required by law that the navigation systems not be fully enabled while the car is in motion.  Then she checked with the navigation system manufacturer and called back and left me a message stating that it was “technically not a law” and that it was done for safety.

Since then, I have taken a 3,500 mile trip in my Prius with Jean and found it extremely frustrating, when traveling on the interstate, to have to stop to enter navigation information. (Jean could have entered the information while we were traveling, saving time and gas.)

I also took a 1,000 mile trip with Bethany, my granddaughter, in her car, using a Magellan Road Mate 800, North America Navigation System.  It was fully enabled, even while the car was moving…so, we could input information while driving the interstate.  The great thing about her Nav System is that it is portable and can be moved from car to car.

I think that I should have been told by someone at Toyota, when purchasing my Prius, that the navigation system was not fully enabled. I sure would not have purchased a system that does not always work.

Next I wrote to the Toyota Sales Manager in California, and asked if he could authorize my navigation system to be fully enabled.  The letter never reached him...it was given back to the same Customer Relations Department that I had talked with previously.  The Rep said, Sorry, we can't do anything for you.  That's our policy...Safety reasons.

When I asked to speak with a supervisor or manager, the Rep said that he was handling this problem himself.  Customers can never speak with someone other than the people in the Customer Relations Department.

So, although Toyota makes a great car, I'm not very happy with the Customer Relations Department and the dead end that I have reached.

I feel like I have paid full price for a half of a navigation system.

Hepa Air Purifier

My granddaughter, Bethany, suggested that I purchase a Hepa type air purifier.  She has one and says that it works really well.  So, although the air in my condo is improving, I thought that was a good suggestion and I bought one.  I'm glad she thought of that.

Donkey Dust & Condo Insurance

Even though the rep from Pest Guard said there was no tear gas in my condo...I think he was full of  "Donkey Dust".  After washing bed linens, and putting the pillows in the dryer  to air them, last night my eyes did not bother me near as much.  So hopefully each day the situation will improve.

Condo insurance premiums in Florida is getting to border on ridiculous.  Last year our association paid about $13,000.00 for insurance with All State.  (for 6 buildings with 8 units per building and our clubhouse). Allstate is not renewing our policy, and no other company will insure condo associations in Florida.

Therefore, we must insure with Citizen's Insurance, a company that is run by the state of Florida.  Our new premium will be approximately $50,000.00 a year.  Is that ridiculous or what?

I guess you know that our monthly maintenence fee will go up a lot...great, isn't it?
